Former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill once famously proclaimed that “all politics is local.”
This may be a useful guideline for predicting elections but reveals nothing about the character of the leaders we choose. Do they seek office for the betterment of their fellow citizens and the world? Or do they crave power as the means of stepping out from the shadows cast by their parents.
